Split Apple Rock is a big apple shaped granite rock formation split in half. It's located between Kaiteriteri and Marahau at the southern end of the Abel Tasman National Park. In the M?ori mythological two gods broke apart the rock while fighting for it.
There's a well formed walkway access down to the beach which is an easy 20-30 minutes walk return. If it's low tide you can wade over to the rock which is sitting in shallow water and the beach is wider and you can explorer the little nooks and caves on the northern end. If it's summer take your swimming gear and dip into the gorgeous clear blue water and feel the golden sand between your toes.
If you prefer to visit by water access you can either hire a kayak or take a boat tour which are available in Kaiteriteri and Marahau.
If you're in Kaiteriteri, take the Kaiteriteri Sandy Bay Road towards Marahau. After approx. 5 km Turn right onto Tokongawa Drive. Follow the road for about 800m and turn right into Moonraker Way. There's a carpark at the end which might be crowded during the high season.
